Ted is Dead
Last night my pet hamster died because of old age. I was expecting it any day though. When I got Ted, my mom said that hamsters only last for about 1 to 2 years. Ted lived for 3 years excactly. That is a long time. You wouldn't think so, but to them, it is like 100 years. Well, I don't know how long it is to them, but that's what I would feel like if I were a hamster. Yet it was still shocking. It was my dad that found him dead. He said that he would look everyday to make sure he was breathing. He would shake the cage or something. Last night he kept shaking the cage, but Ted wouldn't move. Finally my dad touched him and he told me that he felt cold. I have told myself a long time ago that I wouldn't cry when he died. I didn't. I was actually surprised that I didn't. I would have if I found him dead. I am so glad that I didn't find him dead. I would have been crushed. Once my dad said that he was dead, I decided that it would be best for me not to look at him. My dad went to work and buried Ted out in a field. When Derek was 9, he buried his hamster in our backyard. He was young, so he didn't know any better. Today I thought my dad threw Ted away. What are you supposed to do with a hamster when it dies?

I'm sorry to hear about Ted :-( It sounds like you handled things very well. I don't know what to do with a hamster when he dies, but I think burial is always the nicest thing to do. I'm glad your dad buried him.
Well I'm sorry to hear that Ted died. Sounds like he had a very long and happy life with you.
I am so sorry for your loss. When Mickie died I thought I wouldn't cry. He was like a hundred for a dog. But when I saw my kids, I started crying, I think for them. I hope today is a happier day for you. Do you want a little white dog or some cats instead??? Just kidding.
I have never had a hamster but I have had parakeets that died. and I cried. I loved my parakeets because they would whistle at me and they were fun. maybe someday I will get another parakeet. Aunt Lesley does not like birds.
I didn't know that Aunt Lesley didn't like birds. But I did know that Caitlin didn't like them.
Granma I miss your birds. I liked when you had them! I'd forgotten about them.
Em- you are a fantastic writer. How do I know? I teach 5th grade writing and oh my goodness golly you are INCREDIBLE. When I showed this to Adam he was really impressed. Your writing style and voice is so beyond grade level...I hope you know that. If I were your teacher I'd give you an A and not just because you are my cute little cousin.
I'm sorry to hear about Ted. When Sean's gerbils died it was pretty sad. When my mom asked WHY he thought they had died he said "I don't know...probably a lack of food and water."
I want to be and author when I grow up. So I am trying to make good stories right now. I LOVE to write stories, but I HATE to read other people's books. Well, I like Beverly Cleary. I read all of the Ramona series. I read one of the Ramona books in one day. I thought it was amazing that I actually finished it in that time!
By the way, I forgot to mention that I am writing a story called, "Marvelous Mauvelous". Mauvelous is a color by the way. You should really read it when you can. It is a really good story!
